EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A jury in Everett acquitted a man of murder and manslaughter charges.

The Daily Herald reports 26-year-old Michael Mitchell was released after Monday’s verdict.

He had been charged in the shooting death of 22-year-old Armond Davidson during a brawl in January at a Lynnwood apartment building.

Mitchell said he was defending a woman friend who was being assaulted and intended to only strike Davidson with a pistol when it fired.
