Clark, Saunders lead Duquesne rout of UMBC 101-69

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bill Clark scored 18 points and Damian Saunders 17 as Duquesne started quickly and went on to a 101-69 rout of winless Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday night.

After UMBC’s Chris De La Rosa scored the first basket of the game, the Dukes (3-1) scored the next 12 points and never led by fewer than eight the rest of the way.

Duquesne made 55.6 percent of its shots in each half (30 of 54 overall), while holding the Retrievers (0-5) to 36.4 percent (24 of 66) for the game.

B.J. Monteiro and Sean Johnson scored 12 points each for Duquesne, and Mike Talley and Joel Wright added 11 each.

The Dukes enjoyed a huge advantage at the free-throw line, getting 43 chances and making 30. They were 19 of 28 from the line in the second half alone, while UMBC was 14 of 16 for the entire game.

De La Rosa and Brian Neller scored 14 points apiece to pace UMBC’s scoring, and Travis King added 11.
