Tulane holds off Alabama State 84-69

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Aaron Holmes scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures as Tulane defeated Alabama State 84-69 on Tuesday night.

David Booker added 15 points, Ben Cherry 14, Kendall Timmons 12 and Jordan Callahan 10 for the Green Wave (4-2), who improved to 5-0 against the Hornets.

Tulane scored 17 points off 16 turnovers in the first half and led 49-26 at the break. Alabama State finished with 23 turnovers, leading to 17 points for the Green Wave. Tulane outrebounded the Hornets 31-27. Booker led the way with nine rebounds.

Alabama State’s turnovers were too much to overcome, even with a hot-shooting second half. The Hornets shot 72 percent after halftime (18 of 25) and outscored Tulane 43-35.

Robert Sanders scored all 12 of his points in the second half for Alabama State (1-6). Kenderek Washington added 14 points for the Hornets, who lost their third straight.
