Sabres score 8 unanswers in 9-3 win over Philly

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Drew Stafford had a goal and three assists as the Buffalo Sabres scored eight straight times to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 9-3 in an exhibition game Sunday.

The nine goals were the most scored by one team during the preseason.

Buffalo’s Derek Roy scored two goals and added an assist. Jason Pominville added a goal and two assists while Jochen Hecht, Tyler Ennis and Tyler Myers each added a goal and an assist.

The Flyers went up 2-0 with goals by Dan Carcillo and Matt Walker before Buffalo’s Cody McCormick started the streak when he scored from the slot at 13:02. Roy tied it 45 seconds later with a wrist shot high to Johan Backlund’s stick side, and Nathan Gerbe scored at 17:22.

Buffalo scored five goals in the second period but Philadelphia’s Mike Testwuide snapped the streak with a goal 49 seconds into the third period.
