Update: Suspect arrested in MAX stabbing

Portland Police Detectives arrested the suspect in last night’s stabbing that occurred at the Holladay Park Max Platform. 25 year-old Brian Lubbers was arrested this morning, October, 4, 2010, in the area of southwest 6th Avenue and southwest Washington Street. Lubbers is known to the Transit Police and Transit officers were able to confirm his identity and involvement in this incident from witness statements. Lubbers was charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree and lodged in the downtown Multnomah County Facility.

19 year-old Ashley Glanville, who was one of the two females that instigated this altercation, was charged with one count of Harassment for spitting on the stabbing victim’s girlfriend. The name of the second female in the company of Glanville and Lubbers has not been released and she is not being charged.

Detectives are not releasing the names of the victims at this time. The 20 year-old male stabbing victim has been released from the hospital and is in good condition.

It is not clear what caused Glanville and her friend to start a fight with the stabbing victim’s girlfriend which resulted in the stabbing. However, Detectives said Lubbers and Glanville admitted to drinking and alcohol was a factor.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. last night, October 3, 2010, Portland Police Officers and Transit Police responded to the Holladay Park Max platform on reports a subject had been stabbed. Officers contacted a 20 year-old male who told them he and his girlfriend were waiting for the eastbound train after leaving the Lloyd Center Mall. The victim said he saw a female he knew and said hello. The female said something to the victim’s girlfriend and spit on her. An altercation followed that involved this female suspect and another male and female.

During the fight, the victim yelled to his girlfriend he had been stabbed. The victim was transported to an area hospital with two stab wounds that are not life threatening. The three suspects fled the Max platform. Transit officers held the Max Trains as officers searched for the suspects and located a crime scene. Officers located persons in the area matching the description of the suspects. The victim’s girlfriend was able to identify the two females in the incident, but the suspect of the stabbing was not located.

This is an ongoing investigation and the names of the detained persons are not being released at this time. Portland Police Detectives have been assigned to this incident and will continue to investigate this stabbing.
