MONTESANO, Wash. (AP) — A 21-year-old Hoquiam man suspected of beating his 4-month-old son could be charged in his death.

KIRO-TV reports the baby has died at Mary Bridge children’s hospital in Tacoma.

The father had been arrested Tuesday for investigation of assault after doctors reported serious head injuries.

The man had called 911 Sunday to report his son was not breathing. He said the baby had fallen off a couch.

The Aberdeen Daily World reports the baby’s mother and father are not together, and she had recently turned the boy over to the father.
