The Vancouver Fire Department responded to a fire reported in a basement at a home in the 2400 block of C Street.
A resident at the home put the fire out with an extinguisher, according to emergency radio monitored at The Columbian. The fire was apparently caused by an item allowed to burn on a stove.
A radio dispatcher said fire crews proceeded to the residence to help clear out smoke.
