LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Former Jockey Club Gold Cup and Suburban Handicap winner Pleasant Tap was euthanized last week after a bout with laminitis.
Lane’s End Farm says the 23-year-old stallion, who stood at the farm in central Kentucky, was put down Friday.
Bred and raced by Thomas Mellon Evans, Pleasant Tap won nine races during his career and took home more than $2.7 million in earnings. He was the son of Kentucky Derby winner Pleasant Colony and half brother to Derby winner Go For Gin.
Pleasant Tap entered stud in 1993 at his owner’s Buckland Farm and was relocated to Lane’s End in 1997. At stud, he has sired 53 stakes winners, including champions David Junior and Premium Tap.
Laminitis is a life-threatening problem in horses who shift their weight to one leg to keep pressure off an injured limb.
