MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia guard Sarah Miles may miss the Mountaineers’ season opener because of a right wrist injury.

Coach Mike Carey says the reigning Big East defensive player of the year had surgery Monday and will be out 4-6 weeks.

The 5-foot-7 senior from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 10.1 points last season and led the conference in assists (5.9) and steals (2.8).

West Virginia, which returns five starters from the team that set a school record with 29 wins last season, opens Nov. 12 against Loyola, Md.
