BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Ryan Steed returned an interception for a touchdown and Furman converted two other defensive stops into points Saturday in a 27-10 win over Samford.

Steed’s 52-yard return gave the Paladins (4-2, 2-1 Southern Conference) a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-3) turned the ball over on downs with 31 seconds left in the third quarter, and Furman drove 53 yards in 11 plays to take a 20-10 lead on a 31-yard field goal by Ray Early.

Furman’s Josh Lynn recovered a fumble at the Samford 43 on the Bulldogs’ next possession, and the Paladins scored seven plays later on Cody Worley’s 16-yard pass to Adam Mims.

Samford again turned the ball over on downs, and Furman ran out the last 5:07 on an 8-play, 32-yard drive.

Samford held a 348-283 advantage in total offense, led by Chris Evans’ 157 yards rushing on 23 carries.
