PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The two candidates for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District tried to appeal to their district’s moderates in their televised debate Thursday.
The Oregonian reports that freshman Democratic incumbent Kurt Schrader defended his votes on the federal stimulus package and health care reform, while presenting himself as a fiscal conservative.
Republican challenger Scott Bruun, a representative in Oregon’s House, says he would remain bipartisan if elected to Congress.
The debate was sponsored by The Oregonian and KGW.
