Georgia Southern shuts out The Citadel 20-0

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Quarterback Jerick McKinnon ran for 182 yards and a touchdown as Georgia Southern forced nine turnovers to shutout The Citadel 20-0 in Southern Conference play on Saturday.

The Eagles (4-3, 2-2) finished with six fumble recoveries and three interceptions, holding the Bulldogs (2-6, 0-5) to 160 total yards on offense.

Georgia Southern took a 10-0 lead in the opening quarter after a 26-yard field goal by Adrian Mora and a 3-yard touchdown run from Robert Brown.

Mora added another 26-yarder early in the second quarter as Georgia Southern entered halftime with a 13-0 lead.

McKinnon scored the game’s final points on a 3-yard touchdown run with 42 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Matt Thompson threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles for the Bulldogs.

Erik Clanton had a game-high 16 tackles for The Citadel in the loss.
