Cowboys QB Romo out with left shoulder injury

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was drilled into the turf on his left shoulder early in the second quarter Monday night, forcing him to the locker room for X-rays.

Romo fired a pass to Miles Austin, then took the hard hit from linebacker Michael Boley, who was running at him unblocked, going practically full speed. Romo was down, flat on his back, until trainers came to his aid.

Romo took every snap last season — making Jon Kitna the NFL’s only No. 2 quarterback not to play — and had done so through five games this season.

Kitna’s first pass was swatted down at the line. His first series ended with a field goal that stretched Dallas’ lead to 13-7.

Romo had been 5 of 7 for 39 yards with a touchdown pass.

The Cowboys also lost defensive end Jason Hatcher to a groin injury.
