ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) — The IOC says it needs more time to review women’s ski jumping and other events before deciding whether to include them in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

The International Olympic Committee says it looks “favorably” on the proposed events but won’t make a final decision until after their world championships in 2011.

The IOC previously turned down women’s ski jumping for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Women jumpers were hoping for outright approval for Sochi on Monday, but the IOC decided it still needs to assess the quality of competition at the world championships in Norway.

Also facing further review: slopestyle events in snowboard and Alpine freestyle, ski halfpipe, mixed relay in biathlon, and team events in figure skating and luge.
