LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Olympic hammer throw champion Primoz Kozmus is coming out of retirement to defend his title at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

Kozmus said Monday he was an “athlete at heart” and wants to return to competition. The Slovenian won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and followed it up by adding the world championship title in Berlin in 2009.

Kozmus retired in October 2009, saying he had reached his peak. In a statement carried Monday by the state-run news agency STA, he said he believes he can “still give a lot to this sport.”
