CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK, Ore. (AP) — It’s the time of year to close the scenic road that circles around Crater Lake.

The Rim Drive and North Entrance to Crater Lake National Park are now closed for the season due to snow and icy conditions.

Park officials said heavy snow over the weekend deposited 13 inches at park headquarters and even more along the rim of the caldera of the ancient volcano that exploded and eventually formed Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the nation.

The South and West Entrances to the park remain open to visitor traffic year round. Information about road, weather and avalanche conditions at the park can be obtained by calling the park at 541-594-3000.
