Foreclosures nearly 27% of 3Q home sales in county

Foreclosure sales accounted for 26.6 percent of all Clark County home sales in the three months ending Sept. 30, according to a Wednesday report. In all, 544 homes were sold as bank repossessions or short sales, in which borrowers sold for less than was owed on the mortgage, reported RealtyTrac, a California-based real estate tracking service.

RealtyTrac reported that Clark County’s third-quarter foreclosure rate was worse than in the second quarter of the year, when there were 346 foreclosure sales. This year’s third quarter rate also increased from the third quarter of 2009, when 456 home sales were in some stage of foreclosure.

Nationwide, there were 930,437 properties in foreclosure, down less than 1 percent from last year and up nearly 4 percent from the second quarter, RealtyTrac reported.
