Clark runners tops in Southern region

The Clark College cross country teams are headed to the NWAACC Championships on a high note after winning the men’s and women’s team titles Saturday at the Southern Region meet in Coos Bay, Ore.

The Clark men scored 29 points to beat out Lane and Clackamas, which both scored 57.

Hudson’s Bay grad Cameron Falkner was the top Clark runner, placing second on the 8-kilometer course at Southwestern Oregon Community College with a time of 26 minutes, 46 seconds.

He was five seconds behind winner Tahir Chakisso of Mt. Hood (26:41).

The Penguins packed together with Nathan Richards third (26:55), Jared O’Brien sixth (27:22), Walker Riley eighth (27:33) and Nathan Perry 10th (27:35).

The Clark women edged out Lane 39-40 for the team title. The difference in points came in the 3-4-5 runners where Clark placed eighth, 10th and 12th to Lane’s ninth, 11th and 15th.

Clark’s top runner was Prairie High grad Briel Thoune, who was second place overall on the 5K course in 19:00.

Lane’s MaCayla Claver won the race in 18:39.

Clark’s Katarina Mueller, a Mountain View grad, was seventh (19:31). She was followed by La Center grad Tamara Kulla (19:36), Heritage grad Angela Gula (19:44), and Prairie grad Shelby Beaudoin (19:50).

The NWAACC Championships are Nov. 13 at Clackamas Community College.
