An early-morning fire destroyed a home near Amboy, according to a news bulletin issued by Clark County Fire District 10.

The Red Cross is assisting the family, who escaped with only the clothes on their backs, the release said.

The cause of the fire that started at about 3:42 a.m. Friday remains undetermined. Damage to the house and its contents was estimated at about $315,000.

Volunteer firefighters from fire districts 10 and 13 responded to the home along with an ambulance from North Country EMS. There were no injuries reported.

Crews remained on scene until about noon.

“The upper floor collapsed as we arrived, making it unsafe to enter the house, and making it very difficult to fully extinguish the fire” Gordon Brooks, a battalion chief with district 10, said in the release. “A long narrow driveway added to the issues, and if it weren’t for our ability to use the water in the homeowner’s pool, we would have run out of water within minutes.”

Firefighters saved a parked vehicle and an outbuilding.

The house, 40215 N.E. 142nd Ave., is owned by John Janisch, according to Clark County property records.
