HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s $1-a-pack tax hike on cigarettes has brought in $5 million more in revenue than expected since the increase went into place last October.

The Hartford Courant reports that the state collected $5 million more than the anticipated $99.3 million extra. Total revenue from state cigarette taxes now $3 a pack was about $380 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Connecticut now has the fourth-highest state cigarette excise tax in the country, after New York, Rhode Island and Washington state.
