SEATTLE (AP) — The owner of five King County apartment complexes is facing a $165,400 fine for violating state asbestos regulations.

The Seattle Times says the violations include charges that the company used untrained and uncertified workers to clean up contaminated ceiling material from 43 apartments at one complex last December.

State regulators have cited and fined the Longwell Company of Bellevue. The state Department of Labor and Industries says the real-estate firm has been “willfully negligent and indifferent” to state regulations for the safe clean up of asbestos from popcorn ceilings.

A Sept. 2 citation concerning apartments in Kent and Renton marks the third time the company has been cited for asbestos violations.
