You already knew trees provide shade, suck up storm runoff and freshen the air. Did you know they also slow speeders?

“Twenty-Two Benefits of Urban Street Trees” is the third and final in a series of free neighborhood-oriented Safe Streets clinics sponsored by the city of Vancouver and the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance.

The clinic is set for 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 21 at the city offices at 4400 N.E. 77th Ave., third floor. The NTSA will hold its regular 7 p.m. monthly meeting prior to the clinic.

After the clinic, neighborhood associations will have the opportunity to apply for small grants to help further some of the concepts discussed. The pilot projects would most likely be implemented in the summer of 2011.

For more details, visit http://www.cityofvancouver.us/NTSA. To attend the workshop, register with Brooke Porter, 360-487-7731 or brooke.porter@ci.vancouver.wa.us.
