PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland-area transit agency says a bus driver recorded on video apparently looking at an electronic book reader while driving has been pulled from his route.

TriMet’s Bekki Witt told KGW-TV on Thursday the driver was pulled immediately after the agency received several complaints. TriMet did not identify him. Witt says he was hired in 2007 and has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

KGW says a passenger who wants to remain unidentified recorded about 60 seconds of video as the Line 96 bus traveled on Interstate 5. The passenger told KGW the filming began after the driver reached into his bag, pulled out the device and set it on the dashboard.

TriMet’s Witt calls the incident “totally unacceptable.”
