BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — Bremerton police say nine Mountain View Middle School students were treated at a hospital Tuesday after popping prescription pills.

Sgt. Randy Plumb tells the Kitsap Sun that one student who fell ill Tuesday morning was the first taken to Harrison Medical Center. Another child showed seizure-like symptoms — and told school officials that a group of kids had taken prescription drugs.

Police and school officials eventually learned that nine students had taken the pills. Plumb says one student’s stomach was pumped while the others were evaluated and treated. All are expected to recover fully.

Not all the pills were identified but Plumb says some were Cymbalta, a drug used to treat depression and anxiety. Police believe a student brought the drugs from home.

Bremerton School District spokeswoman Patty Glaser says the district sent a letter home with students and alerted parents by phone.
