ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A Coast Guard cutter has returned to Alaska following oil-spill response duty in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard says the cutter Sycamore returned Tuesday.
The Cordova-based Sycamore crew departed on May 24 for a one-month training assessment in Washington state that included such topics as communications and damage control.
Coast Guard officials say the cutter then was told to proceed through the Panama Canal to Pensacola, Fla., for up to six months of spill duty.
The 225-foot Sycamore has a crew of seven officers and 44 enlisted personnel.
Officials say the crew spent 42 days in the Gulf of Mexico.
