TOKYO (AP) — Daiki Kameda defeated Japanese compatriot Takefumi Sakata with a unanimous decision in the first defense of his WBA flyweight title Saturday.

Kameda opened a cut over Sakata’s right eye in the third round and dominated the former champion throughout the 12 rounds to improve to 18-2 with 11 knockouts.

The 21-year-old Kameda captured the title after winning a unanimous decision over Denkaosen Kaowichit of Thailand in February.

Sakata, who held the title from March 2007 to December 2008, dropped to 36-6-2 (17 KOs).
