Skyview’s Priscilla Timmons hung on at the end to place fourth in the Jim Danner Championship girls race Saturday at the Nike Pre-Nationals at Portland Meadows.

The senior went out quick to get in front of the field of 154 runners from six western states, then ran with the leaders for the first of two loops on the 5,000-meter course.

But Molly Grabill of Rancho Bernardo, Calif., and Sarah Reiter of Lindbergh of Burien broke away after two miles. Paige Rice of St. Mary’s of Portland pushed past Timmons in the final mile.

“I knew I would have some good runners to race with today, and I tried to stay with them,” Timmons said. “But they kind of got away from me on the hills. I knew Paige Rice was a good runner, so I was just trying to hang on to fourth place. I knew there was a big pack of runners behind me.”

Timmons finished in 18 minutes, 42 seconds, taking fourth place by two seconds.

Grabill won in 17:42, followed by Reiter 18:00 and Rice (18:37).

Battle Ground’s Nicole Tester had the second-best time by a Clark County girl at the Pre-Nationals. Tester finished fourth in the Division 2 race, running in 19:45 to help Battle Ground finish 12th in the team standings.

Heritage’s Abby Knight was ninth in the Division 2 race in 20:15. Union’s Kaitlyn McKinney placed fourth in the Division 3 race in 20:12.

Union’s Roman Kirkov had the best time among Clark County boys, placing third in the Division 2 race in 16:27. That helped the Titans place fifth in the teams standings in Division 2. Heritage’s Preston Bahr finished right behind Kirkov in fourth in 16:28.

Andrew Kaler of Camas placed 11th in the Division 1 race in 16:38 and Ryan Lisowski of Columbia River was 14th in the D-1 race in 16:41.
