Talking Points 9/27

The Columbian
Published: September 27, 2010, 12:00am

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Even though it’s football season, the NBA … gulp … is about to hit the hardwood.

But to keep the football theme, raising the 12th Man flag over Qwest Field at Sunday’s Seahawks-Chargers game was none other than Blazers head coach Nate McMillan.

We at Talking Points know full-well Nate wasn’t at Qwest Field representing the Blazers (though Paul Allen does own both the Seahawks and Blazers). We are certain Nate was well-received and remembered as the former Seattle SuperSonics point guard.

Today, Nate gets back to Blazers business as the squad has its media days before camp … gulp … opens.

2

Yeah, football kinda takes over September, but have you noticed that the final week of the Major League Baseball season appears to have some excitement this season?

As of now, no one has clinched any of the divisions in the National League, and there are two playoff spots open in the American League.

Probably the most tantalizing matchup upcoming is the Padres-Giants series on the final weekend. It could conceivably be down to one playoff spot when they meet in San Francisco.
