MONACO (AP) — The track and field world governing body has ratified two 800-meter world records set by David Rudisha of Kenya.
He beat the 13-year mark of three-time world champion Wilson Kipketer twice within eight days in August. Both times were confirmed Tuesday by the IAAF.
The 21-year-old Rudisha ran 1 minute, 41.09 seconds at an Aug. 22 meet in Berlin, Germany, to shave 0.02 off Kipketer’s record. Rudisha ran 1:41.01 at the Rieti Grand Prix in Italy on Aug. 29.
Kipketer of Denmark set the previous mark of 1:41.11 in 1997 in Cologne, Germany.
