LONDON (AP) — Premier League club West Ham submitted a bid Thursday to move into London’s Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games in an effort to prevent the venue from becoming a white elephant.

The club is the only bidder to confirm its plans for the stadium. American sports and entertainment giant AEG will announce its intentions after the deadline for formal proposals closes.

They were among more than 100 companies to declare initial interest before the Olympic Park Legacy Company opened the official bidding process. The preferred tenant will be chosen by December.

All bidders were obliged to retain the running track in the stadium, which was initially expected to be downscaled from 80,000 to 25,000 seats after the Summer Olympics.
