COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Andres Mendoza converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute and Eddie Gaven scored in stoppage time to lead the Columbus Crew to a 2-0 win over FC Dallas on Friday night.

William Hesmer made seven saves to earn his second straight shutout for Columbus, which improved to 1-1-1.

Columbus midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo drew a foul from George John inside the box after they collided as Ekpo dribbled toward the goal, and Mendoza shot the penalty kick under the arm of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Dallas (0-2-1) was already down a man as Jackson Goncalves went reckless into Dejan Rusmir and Gaven a minute apart for cautions to draw an automatic ejection in the 33rd minute.
