NEW YORK (AP) — Cricket fans came out in the wee hours of the morning to catch their cricket heroes compete in the final of the World Cup.

New Yorkers jammed several bars around the city, some as early as 4 a.m., to watch Saturday’s match between India and Sri Lanka.

At the Village Pourhouse in the theater district, fans from both countries cheered on their teams. At the Red Lion in Greenwich Village, a solidly pro-India crowd watched as the team overtook Sri Lanka to win its first world title in more than 25 years.

A huge roar went up when India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni cracked a ball into the stands — the equivalent of a baseball home run — for six runs to clinch the title.
