TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Naama Shafir scored a career-high 40 points and Toledo won its first postseason championship in school history with a 76-68 victory over Southern California in the WNIT title game Saturday.

The Rockets (29-8) finished the season by winning their final 18 home games.

Shafir, a junior guard, scored 23 points in the second half, including nine straight during a 12-0 surge that gave the Rockets a 57-47 lead.

Cassie Harberts scored 14 points for the Trojans (24-13), who got within 70-66 in the final minute. Shafir hit six straight free throws in the final 25 seconds to secure the win.

An Orthodox Jew, Shafir had not played on Saturdays before arriving at Toledo from Israel in 2009.

Melissa Goodall added 12 points and Haylie Linn had 10 for the Rockets.
