STOCKHOLM (AP) — Scandinavian airline group SAS AB will perform inspections on four of its Boeing jets after a similar plane belonging to Southwest Airlines Co. sprung a hole in the roof during a flight.
SAS spokeswoman Malin Selander says the planes haven’t been grounded, but will be checked as soon as possible.
She said Wednesday the Boeing 737-500’s due for inspection were manufactured during the same period as Southwest’s troubled jet.
The 737-500 is similar to the 737-300 jet that was involved in the Southwest incident last week, but somewhat larger.
Selander says her company decided Tuesday to act on its own initiative as a preventative measure because “safety is key for us and we want to keep a step ahead.”
