CCA banquet slated Saturday

Guided fishing trips, firearms, custom rods and reels, vacations to Mexico and more will be auctioned and raffled on Saturday at the fourth annual banquet of the Southwest Washington chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W, Sixth St.. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and auction at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available by calling Mary Lynn Elliott at 360-910-0326. Tickets cost $75 per person or $140 for two and include a membership.

Flyfishers offer help on Sunday

BATTLE GROUND — Free fly-casting instruction will be offered beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday at Lewisville Park by the Clark-Skamania Flyfishers.

Instruction will be available in single-handed casting. Double-handed (spey) casting practice will be offered with other fishermen.

Newcomers are encouraged. Rods will be available to borrow.

Depending on water conditions in the East Fork of the Lewis River, a demonstration of how to read water and make fly presentations may be offered.

The park is two miles north of Battle Ground on state Highway 503. There is a $3 parking fee.

The event will last until noon.

Oregon parks add rental cabins

Registration opens today for 16 new deluxe cabin in three Oregon state parks.

Two cabins are at Prineville Reservoir State Park and will open on June 15. Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria will have 11 cabins available beginning July 1. Cape Lookout will have three cabins available on Aug. 1.

The cabins are 16-by-24-feet and designed to sleep five. Each has a six-foot covered front porch, shower and bathroom, a living room with a futon and a bedroom.

Other features include a dining table with chairs, television with DVD player, and a kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator and microwave oven. Campers need to bring their own bedding along with dishes and cooking utensils.

Fly-casting clinic slated April 23

FAIRVIEW, Ore. — Registration is open for the fifth annual Casting for Recovery fly-casting clinic April 23 at Blue Lake Regional Park.

Sponsored by the Stonefly Maidens, the event is a money-raiser for a nationwide program that provides fly-fishing retreats for breast cancer survivors.

Open to both men and women, the clinic cost $50 for one workshop, $80 for two and $130 for a workshop and individualized casting instruction. The workshops are from 10 a.m. until noon and 1 to 3 p.m. and include beginning techniques, accuracy, presentation, distance, single-hand spey and two-hand spey.

Lunch is included.
