FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — German cyclist Patrick Sinkewitz has confirmed that his B sample tested positive for the human growth hormone.
Sinkewitz tells German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung that “unfortunately it’s true and I know that no one believes me.” Sinkewitz has denied doping but he faces a lifetime ban for his second offense. He is the first cyclist to test positive for HGH.
The German tested positive for testosterone in an out-of-competition test before the 2007 Tour de France. He was banned for one year, half the usual suspension because he cooperated with German investigators and shared details about doping in cycling.
