SAO PAULO (AP) — A U.S. Olympic volleyball player was among those injured when a bus carrying a Brazilian women’s volleyball team crashed on its way to a match.

Team members told Sao Paulo media that Stacy Sykora passed out, had a cut on her face and spent the night at a hospital. Sykora was a member of the U.S. silver-medal team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The bus overturned near the gymnasium where the Volei Futuro team was to play a semifinal in the Brazilian league. The driver apparently lost control in the rain just outside Sao Paulo, and several players had minor injuries.

The hospital press office confirmed Sykora was admitted but did not release information on her condition. Most players were released after being treated for cuts and bruises.

The semifinal was canceled.
