Northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Woodland were blocked part of Wednesday afternoon after a truck pulling a trailer jackknifed at the bridge over the East Fork of the Lewis River.

Driver Paul Blihan, 28, of Vancouver was not injured, rescue crews reported.

The truck damaged an expansion joint on the bridge The joints allow steel and concrete to flex and contract with weather and traffic. A state department of transportation crew repaired the joint, a spokeswoman said.

Clark County Fire & Rescue crews responded to the accident, which happened about 2:30 p.m.

Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said fire units arrived and found a truck pulling a flatbed trailer, carrying another truck, on its side, blocking two traffic lanes.

The Washington State Patrol investigated.

Four firefighters responded.

“The Fire District has responded to many similar accidents in the same location,” Dawdy said. “We urge citizens to make sure they understand the forces at work when they pull heavily loaded trailers.”
