PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Christopher Burford has resigned as the attorney general for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
The East Oregonian reports that Burford’s resignation is effective Friday. He has held the job since November 2004 and had been on leave since last Friday.
The Pendleton newspaper said that Burford posted a message on his Facebook page earlier this month that said the tribes were trying to force him out of his job.
Burford declined the newspaper’s requests for an interview and Tribal Deputy Executive Director Debra Croswell declined to discuss the departure.
