SWEET HOME, Ore. (AP) — A horse, two ponies and a llama have been seized by police in Sweet Home, Ore., after they were left without food or water in a small horse trailer in a parking lot.

Officers responded Thursday after a neighbor reported that he had seen a man unhook the trailer a day earlier.

KVAL says police found a note on the trailer indicating mechanical trouble, but when no one returned to pick up the animals, police decided to seize them and have an animal rescue organization care for them for the time being.

A short time later, police say a woman called them to inquire about her animals. They say she has so far been unwilling to meet with officers.

Sweet Home is a small town in western Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
