WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals have placed right-handed reliever Todd Coffey on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain and recalled right-hander Collin Balester from Triple-A Syracuse.
Coffey is 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in five appearances this season. The move before Sunday’s game against Milwaukee is retroactive to April 9.
Balester has pitched five scoreless innings in three appearances for Syracuse. Last season, he was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 17 games for the Nationals.
