Proposed levy would fund Klamath County museums

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A proposed property tax levy on the May 17 ballot could provide three years of funding for Klamath County museums, which will otherwise close in September.

The Herald and News reports the temporary levy would raise about $215,000 a year to fund the Klamath County, Baldwin Hotel and the Fort Klamath museums.

It would levy 5 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, meaning the owner of a $200,000 home would pay an additional $10 in property taxes a year.

Klamath County officials this year eliminated general fund contributions to the county museums. Museum leaders dipped into a reserve fund for $70,000 to keep the museums operational.
