ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say a U.S. drone strike has killed at least six people in a Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border.

The two officials said early Friday’s attack targeted a home in the Spinwam village of North Waziristan.

The exact identities of the dead were not immediately clear, but North Waziristan is considered a base for Taliban who are accused of targeting the U.S. and NATO forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

The two officials spoke on condition on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Although the CIA often launches such attacks, the latest one came a day after Pakistan’s army reiterated the government stance against such attacks, saying they were counterproductive.
