Accused Craigslist scammer Monty Joe Cantrell was booked Friday morning into the Cowlitz County Jail after his arrest Thursday in Clark County.

Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Capt. Corey Huffine said Battle Ground police officers arrested Cantrell on a Cowlitz County warrant for two counts of second-degree theft. The Cowlitz County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Cantrell on April 14.

Cantrell, 51, of Battle Ground, is the suspect in a Craigslist home-rental scam that bilked two Longview families out of $1,775 each in September. His identity was unknown until after he was arrested in Clark County in December on a warrant for a theft case from 2005.

Cantrell was released from custody Tuesday after serving 134 days for that crime.
