Maple Tree — Evergreen Habitat for Humanity kicked off the 2011 build season by breaking ground on the first of three homes to be completed by the Clark County affiliate this year. The home will be built in Habitat’s Patten Park development at 9904 N.E. 69th St.

The recipients of the home are Cristino Cabrera, Lucrecia Tudela and their children, Ritachiah, 11, Champ, 8, Ky, 6, and Tyce, 10 months. Cabrera, a security guard at Southwest Medical Center, and Tudela, a stay-at-home mom, share a cramped two-bedroom apartment with their four children. “Some nights, like when one of our children is sick, I sleep in the living room to make sure that everyone is comfortable,” said Cabrera. “We’re very grateful to Habitat for the opportunity to own our home.”

Bank of America presented a $60,000 check to Habitat to fund the construction of the Cabrera home.

In addition, the Cabrera family will be expected to put in 600 hours of sweat equity during the build.
