LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors say the man who accosted Paris Hilton’s boyfriend outside a Los Angeles courthouse has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and has been sentenced to 227 days in jail.

City attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan says James Rainford entered the plea during a court appearance Thursday in Van Nuys and was immediately sentenced.

Rainford was seen trying to grab or hit Cy Waits as he and Hilton walked into a Van Nuys courthouse to testify against a man arrested outside the celebrity socialite’s home last year. Rainford was tackled by Hilton’s security and turned over to police.

Mateljan says Rainford was sentenced to three years of informal probation and ordered to stay away from Waits when he is released.
