President Obama honors 2 Washington teachers

SEATTLE (AP) — President Barack Obama is honoring two teachers from Washington state with awards for excellence in teaching math and science.

The honorees from Washington are Barbara Franz a math teacher in Moses Lake and Dawn Sparks a science teacher in Thorp.

Eighty-five math and science teachers from across the nation will be honored in Washington, D.C., later this year.

The winners are selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians and educators following an initial selection process at the state level.
