Hannah Wilson might just be a good luck charm for the Portland Trail Blazers, one they surely needed in Thursday’s season-ending playoff loss.

The team hasn’t lost a game when the 12-year-old Vancouver girl has belted out the national anthem before tipoff.

Hannah sang the anthem three times this year before Blazers games, including their close 84-82 playoff win against Dallas on April 23.

Although they’re out of the playoffs this year, Hannah said she’d be more than willing to help sing them to the championship next season.

“I love the Blazers,” Hannah said. “They’re awesome. I’m available if they need me.”

Next up, the young singer and self-described “musical theater geek” plans to head to Los Angeles in May to audition for a national production of Peter Pan. If she wins the part, the Thomas Jefferson Middle School seventh grader will probably have to be home-schooled, as the production travels from August through December, she said.

“I like to perform,” Hannah said. “I like everything about it. When I grow up, I’d really like to be on Broadway.”

Washougal singer has busy week

The week before Easter was eventful for 19-year-old Washougal singer-songwriter Maddison Haag and included an audition for “The X Factor” and a performance at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland.

Haag, a Clark College student, auditioned for the Fox singing competition “The X Factor” in Seattle on April 20. She sang parts of three songs: Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” and Adele’s “Turning Tables” and “Set Fire to the Rain.”

“It was pretty intense,” Haag said.

She didn’t move through to the next round of auditions, but was pleased with her performance nonetheless.

Just a few days later, Haag performed in an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists at the Ten Grands concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The concert took place on April 23, though there was a performance for youths the day prior.

Haag was part of a group of musicians who performed Coldplay’s “Clocks.”

“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “All our voices were so different, and it just sounded really cool with everybody incorporated in it.”
