1. Explore ancient Egypt

This is the last weekend to explore the mysteries of Egypt at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s “Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science” exhibit, which runs through Sunday. The exhibit features hands-on challenges, authentic artifacts and guidance from archaeologists who reveal how modern science and technology are used to uncover and understand the mysteries of the pyramids and the people who built them.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

Where: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, 1945 S.E. Water Ave., Portland.

Admission: $12; $9 for seniors 63 and older and children 3-13;. Additional costs for some shows, submarine tours, laser light shows and planetarium shows.

2. Fashion-forward fundraiser

Get a jump start on the latest spring trends at the May Day Fashion Show hosted by the Hough Foundation. The fashion show, at the Vancouver Marketplace Courtyard, features food from Tommy O’s and live music by North By Northwest. Meet special guest models Stephanie Kralevich and Julie Grauert of KPTV Fox News and, after the show, attend a private sale at Willows boutique. There will also be a silent auction and mystery gift bags for sale. All proceeds go to the Hough Foundation’s Family Services Center.

3. Tickle your funny bone

Missed the Bridgetown Comedy Festival? Slocum House Theatre and Comedy NW bring the local comedy scene to Vancouver. The comedy showcase will feature Portland comedians Alex Falcone, founder of the stand-up program at ComedySportz Portland; Christopher Huizar, Mike Dragoo, Bri Pruett and Andrew Berkowitz. The shows are recommended for children 13 and older.

When: 7 and 9:30 p.m. tonight.

4. Home, garden inspiration

Clark Public Utilities presents the Home and Garden Idea Fair, a weekend of family-friendly activities and demonstrations featuring ideas for enhancing the home, yard and garden. This year’s highlights include landscape displays, a salmon life-cycle mini golf course, and a peanut-butter bird-feeder workshop. Multiple vendors will be on hand. The event also offers one of the largest plant sales in the region.

When: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

5. Hit the gas in ‘Fast Five’

After Mia Torretto (Jordana Brewster) breaks her brother Dom (Vin Diesel) out of custody with the help of ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), they’re on the run from the authorities. Across the border, they find themselves in Rio de Janeiro, with a hard-nosed federal agent (Dwayne Johnson) hot on their heels. The trio must do one final job before they can gain freedom. They assemble an elite team of car racers to confront a corrupt businessman who wants them dead. “Fast Five” is rated PG-13.
