NEW YORK (AP) — Chipper Jones was in the Braves lineup and batting fifth against the Mets Saturday night, his first time starting since he injured himself in his first game back from knee surgery.

Jones strained his right quadriceps July 25, and was limited to pinch-hitting duties since then.

Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said Jones suggested batting himself fifth because the Braves Nos. 3 and 4 hitters were on a tear.

Cleanup hitter Dan Uggla has hit in 26 straight games and Freddie Freeman has a hit in 19 straight.

The 39-year-old Jones was 0 for 4 in pinch-hit appearances since July 26.

He was batting .258 with nine homers this season entering Saturday. The start of the game against the New York Mets was delayed by rain.
